OUR HISTORY
Overview of DepEd SDO Valenzuela City
The Schools Division Office of Valenzuela City (SDO Valenzuela) traces its roots to the former VALMANA cluster (Valenzuela, Malabon, and Navotas), which was established to improve supervisory control, strengthen coordination with local government units, and enhance the efficiency of public education delivery in the northern part of Metro Manila.
Established in 1994, SDO Valenzuela began as part of the broader VALMANA division structure. With the cityhood of Valenzuela in 2001, it formally became a lone schools division under the Department of Education (DepEd) in the National Capital Region. Since then, it has steadily evolved from a modest division office into a high-performing and nationally recognized educational institution.
Institutional Growth and Development
In its early years, SDO Valenzuela focused on strengthening foundational systems, expanding infrastructure, and improving instructional quality. As the division matured, it began integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into classrooms and governance processes, laying the groundwork for digital transformation.
Major initiatives over the years have included:
- Expansion of school facilities to address classroom shortages
- Large-scale teacher training and professional development programs
- Strengthened academic performance, including top rankings in national assessments
- Institutionalization of recognition systems for teachers and personnel
- Strategic partnerships with universities, international foundations, and the local government
Transformation and Innovation
The division became widely recognized for its transformative programs that improved access, equity, and quality of education. These efforts included the establishment of computer laboratories and internet connectivity across schools, the adoption of paperless and technology-enabled systems, and large-scale learner support programs such as feeding initiatives and the provision of instructional materials. Leadership development and international benchmarking programs further strengthened institutional capability.
These reforms significantly boosted learner performance and positioned SDO Valenzuela among the top-performing divisions nationwide.
Resilience and Digital Governance
During the COVID-19 pandemic, SDO Valenzuela accelerated its digital transformation efforts, ensuring continuity of learning through distance education and technology-driven governance. The division strengthened online service delivery, ICT utilization, and digital public service systems. As a result, it earned multiple recognitions in human resource management, digital governance, innovation, and public service excellence.
Present Direction and Future Vision
Today, SDO Valenzuela continues to prioritize:
- Professional upskilling of teaching and non-teaching personnel
- Strengthened LGU-DepEd partnerships
- Infrastructure expansion and modernization
- Development of the Valenzuela City Center of Education as a centralized hub for governance and innovation
